What Is a Baghouse and How Does It Work?

Jet Blast is an expert in baghouse change outs and cleaning. Here’s more about the baghouse.

Manufacturing plants produce products of all kinds, from factory-made goods like food and appliances to public utilities like electricity, gasoline, and more. In the process of creating all of these goods, much dust and toxic debris can form. That’s where the baghouse comes in. What is a baghouse? Here’s how it works.

What Is a Baghouse?

A baghouse is an industrial-sized air filter for collecting dust and debris from manufacturing. The baghouse keeps toxic dust from the rest of the manufacturing plant and from the outside environment. There are different types of baghouses, but generally, all are giant cylindrical structures connected to a production site.

How Does a Baghouse Work?

Inside each baghouse is a collection of vertical, cylindrical fabric filters that capture dust and dirt as it comes through the baghouse. Exhaust air comes through the side at the bottom and out through the top of the baghouse. The larger dirt particles that come through fall into a collecting basin called a hopper.

The differences of how a baghouse works are seen in the different types of baghouses: pulse jet, shaker, and reverse air. A pulse jet baghouse has air jets that periodically blow clean air back down through the filters to clean out the dust. A shaker baghouse mechanically shakes the dust from its filters, and must be done when the plant is offline. A common reverse air baghouse style is one that blows air against the fabric filters while the plant is online.

Baghouse Change Out and Cleaning Services

The baghouse filters will become worn out over time and eventually need replacing. A filter replacement for baghouses is called a baghouse change out, and this is just one service that Jet Blast Inc. offers to manufacturing plants. We also clean baghouses and other parts of manufacturing and power plants. If you have any questions for us, feel free to contact us today!
